About Cathi

Cathi grew up in Rome, NY and moved to Denver, CO her junior year of high school. After graduation in 1968, she enlisted in the US Air Force for four years. She served as a Communications Specialist during tours of duty in Crete and in Taiwan. In 1972 she married John Young, who worked for Dow Chemical Co. as an agronomist. They lived in Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana during his career. Cathi was a stay-at-home mother, raising her three children, Weston, Mindelynn, and Mitchell, attended selected classes in business schools and community colleges, and worked part-time as a pre-school teacher for several years. After her children were living independently, Cathi was employed as Office Manager of the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic in Indianapolis from 2001-2007. She supervised and trained administrative staff; provided orientation of office procedures and clinic policies for volunteers and interns who interacted with clients from over 100 countries, and managed flow of documentation for immigration, asylum, family law, landlord tenant, and bankruptcy cases. In 2007, Cathi and John moved to Akron, OH to assist with elder-care of John’s mother. In Akron, Cathi volunteered at their church, The Chapel, as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. She developed customized English lessons for group or one-on-one instruction with individuals from Japan, Korea, China, and Brazil; with consideration for English aptitude and age appropriate instruction in pronunciation, speaking and listening, grammar, writing and reading, idioms, vocabulary, current social issues, and the American culture. She hosted cross-cultural and language learning events in her home, restaurants, parks, and museums. She tutored International adults and children in West Akron, OH. Before relocating to Indianapolis, IN in 2015, Cathi developed and published a two-year curriculum for the advanced ESL class at The Chapel.
